Cornus sanguinea, the native Dogwood, is an indispensable shrub for winter interest. Once its leaves drop, it reveals striking, fiery red and orange stems that brighten up dull winter landscapes. During the summer, it bears clusters of small white flowers followed by bitter black berries. It is incredibly hardy, tolerant of wet soils, and forms a dense, colourful thicket.
